Screen-used cable- and rod-actuated “Teddy” from A.I.: Artificial Intelligence

Screen-used cable- and rod-actuated “Teddy” from A.I.: Artificial Intelligence. (Warner Bros., 2001) In this wonderful retelling of the Pinocchio story, the sidekick and conversational foil of the Cricket has been replaced with a super-bear…Teddy. This screen-used figure is cable- and rod-actuated for use in critical dialogue sequences that the director didn’t want affected by the motors, gears or other noisy moving parts in the bear’s workings. Made of aluminum, steel and plastics, the natural and synthetic fur is all hand-tied or punched. The face, hands and feet are made of foam latex and the nose is made of silicone. An incredible iconic character from science fiction history.
