Rattan chair from Rick’s Café Americain in Casablanca

(Warner Bros., 1942) Wooden rattan chair measuring 18 in. from the floor to the seat cushion, 35 in. tall top to bottom and 15 in. wide. This chair was a part of the set for “Rick’s Café Americain” owned by Humphrey Bogart’s character in Casablanca. “Rick’s” was modeled after the Hotel El Minzah in Tangiers, and is where the most important scenes in the film were staged. Casablanca has gone on to become one of the most romantic and iconic Hollywood films of all time. It received Academy Awards for Best Director, Best Picture and Best Writing, and was nominated for another five. The chair has some loose wicker rings around the four legs, but is in otherwise fine condition. A rare and important setpiece from this classic film. Estimate $8,000 – $10,000
