Krull Slayer Head Maquette Set

A set of maquettes created during the production of the cult sci-fi classic Krull. These maquettes were created to help visualise the “Slayers”, who were the elite shock troops of The Beast, a cruel entity seeking to take over the galaxy, and were used for testing purposes during the film’s pre-production phase. The first maquette was created for the purpose of screen tests for a melting effect on the creatures. A near-complete bust with scaled skin across the shoulders and back, the entire piece is made of green, brown and yellow wax which, when heated would melt into a puddle. The second maquette, made of plastic with a hollow centre, is a master model of the Slayer helmet used to create the test busts, and features three recessed eye sockets on the front – key to the distinctive look of the abominable Slayer creatures. Both maquettes are unfinished with no paint applied, though the plastic maquette features various signs of sanding and filling from its time on the production. The maquettes feature significant wear from use and time spent in storage, with breakages to the wax on the test head and some light wear to the gel coat on the fibreglass head. However, in spite of these flaws, these rare vintage pieces offer a fantastic insight into the development of the production and remain in overall fair condition. The test head measures 18cm x 13cm x 23cm (7” x 5.25” x 9”) with the fibreglass head measuring 11cm x 11cm x 12.5cm (4.25” x 4.25” x 5”)
