Kirk Douglas gladiator armor from Spartacus

(UIP, 1960) Hero leather and brass-ringed armor for the right arm, stitched with a cross weave which holds the brass rings in place and fastened to the actor’s arm with a leather lace, as worn by Kirk Douglas in the title role. For their work on this film, designers Valles and Bill Thomas received an Academy Award for Best Costume Design. This custom leather and brass armor is an important piece of film history, and instantly identifiable with this epic. Small tear at the lower wrist, extending up toward the elbow; otherwise, in very good condition. Comes with a letter of provenance from Arms & Archery of the UK. Estimate $8,000 – $10,000
