John Wayne costume from Fort Apache

(RKO, 1948) Full costume worn by John Wayne as he attempted to save the cavalry command from a final fatal battle as “Captain Kirby York” in the John Ford classic Fort Apache. The costume consists of blue shell jacket with gold brass buttons and ranking insignia/boards, burgundy sash, felt trousers, leather saber belt with saber hangers and eagle emblazoned on the buckle, black leather ankle books and metal spurs. “Western Costume Company” is written in black ink at the inside right sleeve and stamped in white along with the number “53” at the back of the pants. There is some wear to the leather belt, a minor tear and stain on the pants; otherwise the costume is in excellent condition. Estimate $20,000 – $30,000
