Grail tablet from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade

(Paramount, 1989) This tablet is made of solid plaster painted and weathered to resemble ancient stone, with a large cross and Latin script engraved on the surface. The inscription is based on original Latin Psalms, with re-translated Scripture and what is believed to be some other fanciful, though erroneous, passages. Interestingly, the prop maker took the English-language Psalm and re-translated it to Latin word-for-word to create this wonderful artifact, seen in Donovan’s apartment in the film. This fantastic set piece served as an important clue, ultimately leading Indy to Venice in pursuit of the final, missing portion of the Grail inscription. The tablet measures approx. 19 1/2 inches long. Estimate $30,000 – $40,000
