Gangs of New York Bill The Butcher Daniel Day Lewis Bloody Finale Costume

A bloody costume down by Bill ”The Butcher” (Daniel Day Lewis) in the 2002 Martin Scorsese epic movie Gangs of New York. This particular costume was worn toward the end of the film as Bill and Amsterdam Vallon (Leonardo DiCaprio) finally see an end to their battles, fought at the Five Points where it all began when Amsterdam was but a boy. The grimy costume consists of a blood stained waistcoat with cuts and slashes across the back, brown cotton shirt with rolled sleeves and bloody slashes that correspond with the waistcoat, and finally a pair of brown leather and canvass trousers. All the components are in a very worn and intentionally distressed condition, and are labelled inside “Daniel Day Lewis” along with the scenes or in the case of the waistcoat “never worn” which relates to the shot when Bill is lying dead on the ground, and appears to be a good match to the coatseen on screen. The trousers are marked “double”, and this refers to them being a second pair of identical trousers worn by the actor rather than belonging to a stunt double. A great set from the climatic final battle
