Future War helmet - The Outer Limits

(ABC-TV, 1963-65) This retro-futuristic helmet was worn in “The Soldier”, one of the most popular episodes of The Outer Limits starring Michael Ansara. The story concerns a time-traveling soldier from the post-apocalyptic future who is being pursued by another soldier – a plot which was considered to be the impetus for James Cameron’s Terminator franchise. A lawsuit (filed by Outer Limits writer Harlan Ellison) and subsequent court order forced Cameron to eventually credit Ellison’s work by placing the following credit at the end of the film, “With acknowledgement to the works of Harlan Ellison”. The helmet is fabricated from hand-cast fiberglass, with an internal suspended headband and spaces for a pair of electronic earphones in both ear areas, which in the episode repeats to soldiers the incessant command “kill… kill… kill.” Discovered in a wardrobe rental house in 1994, the piece is missing a small antenna at the top and a pilot’s visor, but is otherwise in original condition. An amazing production artifact from The Outer Limits. Estimate $1,500 – $2,500
