Full-size Hydra from Hercules: The Legendary Journeys

(Universal TV, 1995-99) This was used in the first of five television movies that introduced the “Hercules” TV series (original air date April 25, 1994), and seen again in Season Two, Episode 24: “Cave of Echoes” (air date June 7, 1996 – the season finale). Hercules and Lolaus inspire a nervous young writer to heroism when the three men make their way through the fearsome Cave of Echoes to rescue a beautiful maiden. Kevin Sorbo as “Hercules” fights a multi-headed hydra monster in the very first film, and again in a flashback in the season two finale. This is one of the heads used on screen during filming. When watching the scene it is evident that both computer graphics and practical effects were used in tandem for the monster. The piece measures approximately six feet tall and about three feet wide at the tips of the wings, and is made of foam latex (filled with foam) with resin teeth. The Hydra remains in great screen-used condition, and stands 81 in. tall. This is an iconic piece from the Hercules series, as it was showcased in the opening title sequence of the series and later used as an image tie-in throughout the merchandising campaign. Estimate $2,500 – $3,500
