Bench from Nefretiris bedroom in The Ten Commandments

(Paramount, 1956) A beautiful, hand-carved Egyptian bench with ornate inlaid Egyptian hieroglyphic designs, and buck feet at each corner with buck heads at the two right ends with horns. The seat itself is made of strong off-white webbed cord. Extensively marked on the bottom “Paramount Picture Co. No. 13”, with numerous additional production numbers “GR-1676”, “AF1528”, and “A-13777”. Although not seen on screen, this piece was most certainly made for Nefretiri’s (Anne Baxter’s) bedroom, as the style of furniture is identical. The production values for this film being extremely high, the piece may have been placed in a corner of her room for set dressing, and was only left out of the bedroom scenes on film due to the tight camera angles. A fantastic piece of furniture in and of itself, its association with the greatest Biblical epic of all time makes this a highly desirable set piece and an important part of Hollywood history. Measures 42 in. wide x 16 in. deep x 28 in. tall. Estimate $3,000 – $5,000
