Barbarian's Sword and Sheath

A barbarian’s sword and sheath carried by a Germanic warrior in Ridley Scott’s Academy Award winning epic Gladiator. Betrayed by his Emperor’s son Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix) and sold into slavery, Roman general Maximus (Russell Crowe) finds his calling in the arena as a gladiator. But when a festival of games begins in Commodus’ honor, Maximus returns to Rome with thoughts of revenge for his lost Emperor and family.

This sword and others like it were used by the barbarians of Germania who do battle with the Roman legion commanded by Maximus on the front in Germania. Fighting under the watchful eyes of the emperor Marcus Aurelius (Richard Harris) and his son, Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix), the barbarians lead a brutal assault against the Romans before ultimately falling on the field of battle.

The sword is made of hard rubber with an elaborate “fish tail” grip. The sword is finished in black with metallic silver paints used for the blade. The accompanying scabbard is made of brown leather with a brass endcap and brass fixings on the rear. A metal bracket at the top of the sheath allows for the fitting of a brown shoulder sling, allowing it to be carried on the hip in battle and when at rest.
Well used on the production with wear and tarnishing from use on Germania’s inhospitable battlefields, the sword and sheath remain in overall very good condition.
