(ABC-TV, 1978-79)This painting was created for the pilot episode of Battlestar Galactica by John Dykstra’s Apogee special effects company to show an angle of the Galactica with finer details than the physical filming miniature had. It is composed of an enhanced photographic element affixed to painted matte board, and measures 15 in. x 18 in. The image features a view of the Galactica’s port-side landing bay as viewed from behind and just beneath, looking up at the bay and a portion of the aft quarters of the ship. The image of the Galactica is slightly floated over the flat black background to give the illusion of depth. “Shot 478” is handwritten at the upper left corner. In the original shooting script dated 11/1/77,shot 478 is described as “OUTSIDE THE GALACTICA as more reinforcements stream into the sky....” Although the scene was ultimately cut, the painting can be seen under construction and in its completed form in the supplemental materials of the Battlestar Galactica DVD set. An exceptional production artifact, suitable for framing and display.

Estimate $3,000 – $4,000
