ORIGINAL HERO WORKING DAGGIT FROM BATTLESTAR GALACTICA. (ABC-TV, 1978-79) Muffit, the Daggit who replaced Boxey’s live pet who was killed in the Cylon attack on Caprica, was played by a monkey who wore this specially-designed suit and helmet and interacted with the characters on the set, as the plot required. The costume is fitted with servos to animate the ears and mouth (the ears spin, and the mouth opens and closes) so that the Daggit would appear life-like on-screen. The tail is made of a heavy-gauge spring, so that the tail would bounce while the monkey walked about the set. For shots that did not require much movement, the production crew inserted a custom articulated form into the costume, so that the Daggit could remain stationary during long takes. This exceptional working prop – the only known surviving Daggit costume – was constructed by John Dykstra and his associates at Apogee Effects. It remains complete with working electronics, which operate via the original wireless remote control. This amazing piece has been in the hands of private collectors since the series ended, and has never before been seen in public. Truly a wonderful relic from this popular science-fiction series, it remains wholly intact and functional, and is one of the finest surviving original props from Battlestar Galactica that we’ve ever encountered. Comes with the original comb used on the set to groom the costume.
