“THE WIZARD OF OZ,” 1939 (MGM), Munchkin jacket designed by Adrian. This one of a kind military styled jacket is made of orange and taupe wool felt. The short waisted jacket with tails, has orange felt leg 0’ mutton styled sleeves with one large off-white button at each cuff.

The jacket body is taupe felt with one large off-white button on each side of jacket front and two floor length tails in back. The large stand-up collar and lapels are orange felt. Over each shoulder are orange felt epaulets spiraled with taupe felt and trimmed with 3 l/2 in. off-white cotten fringe, shaded in orange. Inside of jacket has MGM label which reads “I060-4021.” The overall condition of the jacket is exceptional.

The jacket is worn in a scene after Dorothy's farm house lands on and kills the Wicked Witch of the East. Dorothy’s world changes as she opens the front door of the farm house and steps into the Technicolor surrealistic Munchkinland. The Munchkin’s are overjoyed to be free of the Witch’s evil rule and sing songs to Dorothy, their new heroine. In a procession, Glenda the Good Witch and the Munchkins parade Dorothy in a carriage to the civic center of Munchkinland. Following the carriage is the Munchkin Army led by the Army leader, portrayed by Prince Denis, wearing this jacket. He also stands to Dorothy's right as the Lullaby League and Lollipop Guild welcome her to Munchkinland.

This is a unique and rare piece of Hollywood memorabilia from undoubtedly one of the most popular films ever made.
