(MGM, 1939) This rare Flying Monkey special effects prop is constructed of grey and pink/red painted rubber, and was used for various perspective shots in the Flying Monkey sequences to complement the costumed actors. Measuring 8 in. tall, the wings (detached from the torso so that they can be articulated) stretch out to an 8 in. wingspan,and the prop still retains its Simian-like head with long slender legs. One of the many elements used to give the illusion of the grand army of Flying Monkeys unleashed by the Wicked Witch of the West, this piece is exceedingly rare to have survived, and is the first such Flying Monkey special effects prop from the original production that we’ve ever encountered.
