863. The Ten Commandments massive collection of original storyboard drawings for the 1956 version. (20th Century Fox, 1963) 351 storyboard sketches(of which only about 15 are studio mimeo or blueprint copies) in pencil, pen & ink, and charcoal on 8.5 x 11" vellum by illustrator Harold Michelson for this version which stars Charlton Heston and Yul Brynner. It seems quite likely that this is the entire storyboard sequence for this epic film, as this is quite an epic archive of original-art storyboards for one single film. These originated from Michelson's personal library, and were assembled into 5 separate 3-ring binders by him some years ago, and the individual storyboards are identified generally by different time periods in the film, lettered A through F and numbered. Michelson worked on this project over two years, detailing every scene using camera angle projection to indicate specific lenses. This essentially determined much of the cinematography, editing, and lighting for what was then the biggest picture in Paramount history. Each panel is also drawn in a wide-screen format as an accurate indicator of how the finished scenes will appear in Paramount's VistaVision process. This was Michelson's first big assignment in Hollywood, starting his climb from storyboard artist to become one of the industry's top Art Directors. Very Fine overall.
