(Paramount, 1956) A shortsleeve cotton kaftan in dark green, navy blue and burgundy vertical stripes, embroidered with thick two-tone red and orange yarn at the collar and cuffs. Internal Paramount label is inscribed in black ink “Double Moses #2”. With some minor fraying of the yarn at the collar, the kaftan remains in very good condition overall. As part of his traditional Hebrew clothing, Heston wears this distinctive kaftan during the Burning Bush scene, when God reveals that he, Moses, is to lead the Hebrews out of Egypt. He then returns to Sephora (Yvonne De Carlo) and Joseph (John Derek) his face glowing after being in the presence of God! A truly important wardrobe piece from Charlton Heston’s timeless role as Moses, from the scene in which he is transformed from a humble Hebrew shepherd into God’s chosen messenger.
