(Walt Disney, 1964) Black single-breasted three-button cotton coat, with internal Western Costume label typed “Dick Van Dyke”. Inscribed in white ink on the left chest by the actor, “God Bless, Dick Van Dyke”, in person on the set of Diagnosis Murder. This particular coat was worn by Van Dyke as Bert the Chimney Sweep in the memorable scene in which he happily sings the catchy tune “Chim Chim Cher-ee”, which received an Academy Award for Best Song – one of five garnered by Mary Poppins that year. The film was nominated for an additional eight, including Best Costume Design - Color. A superb piece from one of Disney’s greatest musicals.
