I bought this exact helmet in Italy in the late '90's in pristine, unworn, condition at a very reasonable price. I subsequently sold it and am now understandably sick! These leather helmets were Italian made and were of superb quality and construction. I have since acquired an early '50's MGM Roman officers helmet in steel; the later MGM helmets were, according to this site, fiberglass. . This type is seen in all the MGM epics such as Quo Vadis, The Robe, Demetius and Ben Hur.
