841. Archive of original Ben-Hur concept artwork. (MGM, 1959) A fantastic archive of 35 original renderings from various scenes of Ben-Hur. Each accomplished in charcoal on artist's vellum in order to facilitate the use of the brownlining process to be copied and distributed among production personnel. 29 are drawn by David Constable and six are drawn by John L. Jensen. Varying in size from 19 in. x 24 in. to 19 ½ in. x 54 in., some with scene numbers, camera directions and other production notations. The renderings include multiple views of the famous chariot race scene, a sunken garden, Quintus Arrius' summer villa, interior views of the Senate chambers, the nativitiy scene, etc. Due to the fragility of the artist vellum, they exhibit some chips and tears; some have been repaired with tape. Bidders strongly urged to view this lot in person. $8000 - $10000
