(Warner Bros., 2003) This wonderful and intricate costume consists of an under-kimono (pants & top), shin-guards, thigh-guards, sleeves with chainmail, chest armor with shoulder plates and skirt, boots and the distinguishable crescent moon helmet of the archers. Archery had been the samurai’s highest discipline during the 7th and 8th centuries. These warriors, known as ashigaru, referred to their specialty as “The Way of the Bow and the Horse,” because they developed firing techniques while practicing on horseback. The complicated designs were based on tedious historical research and earned costume designer Ngila Dickson an Academy Award nomination. Acquired directly from Warner Bros.
