RUSSELL CROWE PROP AXE FROM "GLADIATOR"
Universal Pictures/DreamWorks/SKG, 2000
A prop axe used by Russell Crowe as he portrayed the barrel-chested Maximus Decimus Meridius, the role that won him an Academy Award for Best Actor. Made of hard rubber with an internal metal rod for support, this realistic-looking piece was seen in the climatic sequence when Crowe fights the Gaul and tigers at the Coliseum. He takes this axe from the Gaul, uses it to imapale his foot and then holds it above his head as if to kill him, but spares him instead. Included are four color images showing Crowe and The Gaul using the axe in this charged scene.
