Ewan McGregor “Ed Bloom” screen-used animatronic spider costume and two screen-used snake puppets from Big Fish. (Columbia, 2003) As Ewan McGregor (as the young Ed Bloom) fights his way through the dark forest in this Tim Burton film, numerous spiders jump from the webs that surround the path. This visual effects costume consists of a neoprene undersuit with red flannel shirt and pants with Velcro flap closures in back and blue wool jacket—all festooned with 5 in. diameter spiders with custom paint jobs and urethane clear coat. Some of the spiders on the costume are static, but there are numerous cable- articulated spiders and some servo-actuated versions as well. Also included are two animated silicone snakes used for the scene when Ed Bloom sees the snake swimming towards the bathing beauty in the river. One snake is mounted on the animation rig, being a pushrod mechanism mounted on a camshaft that provides the realistic “swimming snake” effect
