1039. Screen-used animated pumpkin and static pumpkin from The Nightmare Before Christmas. (Buena Vista, 1993) These two pumpkins appear in the sequence where Jack Skellington sings his lament early in the show. The static example is made of hard foam hand painted and is similar to a grapefruit in size. The animated pumpkin is slightly smaller, made of foam latex; it performed by opening its mouth to let out a cartoon animated ghost. To animate it, there was a rig inside that worked like a screw jack; the animator turned a screw under the animation table, causing the pumpkin to stretch incrementally. The original paint remains just as it was when both pumpkins finished their last shots and remains in fine condition. Both have been in the personal collection of the show's director of photography since NMBC wrapped.
