(Universal, 1997) One of several test paint jobs developed for the film,this orange-toned Velociraptor maquette is the look chosen for the male dinosaurs that featured prominently in the film. It is hard resin, hand painted and detailed in both pose and finish to give the clearest preview as to what the full-sized character would look like. Like the males of many species, the male was given the vibrant appearance of a fighting adult as not only an attraction to other predators, but also to suggest its power and ferocity. Measures 15 ½ in. tall x 30 in. long. This film received an Academy Award nomination for Best Visual Effects.
