These vulturelike creatures are the dark lords who must be destroyed in this seminal FX saga, which paved the way for every sword and sorcery film since, including Lord of the Rings. The world of the Dark Crystal was literally created from the ground up, and virtually none of it exists. This handmade Skeksis maquette, built out of sculpey clay and hand-painted, represents the final design approved by Henson for this remarkable film.
