Fishing rod & reel with leather harness, used by Quint on his fishing boat in Jaws. (Universal, 1975) Penn Senator 16/0 reel with heavy nylon line (which was replaced over the course of the years). The rod has been re-wrapped & refurbished with new eyelets, as the pole was used for commercial fishing for a number of years after the production wrapped. This is the heavy deep-sea fishing rod and reel used by Quint on the Orca to catch the giant shark, and was featured prominently in the suspenseful scene when the shark is first hooked by Quint; the line slowly plays out with a “click-click-click” before the shark bolts off with the bait, the line furiously spinning out from the reel, as Roy Scheider pours cooling water on it! The rod & reel are accompanied with the original leather harness as used by Quint when he straps himself into the reel, after he hooks the shark. One of the leather straps is missing, and the harness is distressed from exposure to the elements, but otherwise remains in good condition. Comes with two letters of authenticity: one from Jaws art director Joe Alves, stating the history of this fishing tackle as used in the film, and one from the owner of the sportfishing yacht, the Gladius X, from which this rod, reel and harness were taken by the film crew for the off-shore filming at Martha’s Vineyard.
